What's the deal?

Hi all,

The idea for this website was born on a snow day, after reading quite a few blogs:
New Dress a Day, What I Wore, You're Sew Cool, and Artfully Awear. I love reading these and would love to emulate some of these ideas in my own life, but unfortunately I'm not that talented, nor do I have much "vision" when it comes to planning unique outfits. However, I've also discovered that I'd addicted (seriously, addicted!) to online shopping. I've spent a good deal of time the last few weeks browsing online stores to find just the right items and I've discovered that it's something I really enjoy doing. Unfortunately, I didn't exactly choose the best job to FUND my shopping habits. I'm a 4th grade teacher, and seeing as I would like to actually save a little money for my future, I should probably refrain from buying every little thing I want. I've noticed in magazines and online websites that shops often feature these "fantastic outfits for such a GREAT price," yet the items are actually rarely affordable for real people. $100 for a shirt is a serious splurge in my book, not a steal.

Thus, my idea for "Thrifty Teacher" was born. I thought I'd challenge myself to create an outfit a day for $60 or less. On the rare occasion that I find a fantastic deal, I might bend that goal just a teensy weensy bit (because let's face it, I'm still a sucker for brand names every now and then...:)) When I'm shopping online, I attempt to find every single promo code, plan my purchaes so that I can get free shipping, and find the store with the cheapest version of my item. So, I'm going to bring that all to you!

Now, in real life, I still couldn't afford to buy a brand new, $60 outfit every day of the week. But my thought is that if I wanted a brand new outfit for a special occasion, I could spend $60 for a whole outfit and not have to scrimp and save the rest of the month just to be able to pay my rent. Not all of these outfits are ones that I own, but they are all ones I would wear. Many of them include items that I already have in my wardrobe or are items that I have actually purchased online.

And finally, I feel like I need a disclaimer to point this out: I completely realize that this may not be a new idea and it may also seem "copy-catish," but I'm doing it mainly because I thought it would be fun and interesting (and hopefully I won't decide that I need to start actually purchasing every one of my outfits...:))

Looking foward to creating lots of options for myself and fellow readers....happy reading!
