Wednesday, January 26: Snow Day!

Well, I've already failed at making this a day-by-day venture. I got frustrated with the formatting of the blog because I couldn't figure out how to easily arrange pictures, but I HOPE that I have succeeded and that will no longer be a problem.

Today we got out of school two hours early because of snow/sleet/ice/slush and while I REALLY need to be studying for a class, re-vamping my resume, and working on job-related things in general, I decided this blog would be far more fun....

So, in honor of the fact that I plan to spend the rest of the day on my couch, I think today is the perfect day to find some comfy snow day duds for a fantastic deal:)

I don't know about you, but I typically see no sense in dressing up AT ALL when I don't leave my apartment. Add to that the fact that I'm currently boyfriend-less and the only person who will see me today is my roommate and that means, I'm wearing a t-shirt and sweats! (I'm all for looking nice, but honestly, being comfortable when you're lying around the house definitely wins out on this one!) I'm gonna go ahead and suppose that somewhere in your closet you have a comfy t-shirt and sweats, so those won't be necessary to purchse. However, I've found the PERFECT purchase for your footsies!

I'm one of those people who is always cold....which means, so are my feet! I've found the perfect slippers for today (ok, so I actually purchased these already last month....) and they are super adorable! Technically, you might even be able to get away with wearing them out (and by out I mean going to my parents for dinner on a weeknight, not like ...going to the movies, dinner, grocery store or any place where you'd actually see anyone you might want to impress).

Friday, December 17: Night Out on the Town

So, assuming the weather clears up somewhat (we've had snow, snow, and more snow here...), I've planned to go visit some friends from college this weekend. I'm hoping we'll get to go out and do something fun tonight, and for that, I will need the perfect outfit! I've been wanting a sequin blazer recently and I spent quite a few hours searching for the perfect one (that wasn't over $100....seriously, that was not an easy task) until I finally found one! Mine's on the way, so I can't actually wear it tonight, but this is the outfit I'm hoping to wear once it arrives:)

Black Sequin Blazer, Charlotte Russe, $25.00

I was SO excited to find this for such a good price. It says it's $44.50, but then when you add it to the cart, it's only $25.oo!! Also, if you use the promo code "student," you can get an additional 10% off.

Ribbed Scoop Neck Tank, Charlotte Russe, $2.99
in Heather Grey

Hopefully this is an item you already have in your wardrobe, so you wouldn't have to spend the extra $ to buy it. I wear camis and tanks with outfits ALL the time, though, so it's always nice to add a new, cheap one to the mix:)

Elastic Waist Jegging, ARDEN B., $8.75

in Rinse

Ok, now I had to compromise a little on these, because they only had them left in the color I liked in a M. I figured since they're jeggings (and hopefully tight!), then a M will just have to do! Sometimes I just "make it work" when items are a really good deal:)

Women's Xhilaration Tomasa Peep Toe Pumps, Target, $13.48

in black

Ideally, peep-toes aren't the best in cold weather. However, they are a good price and adorable, too, so I think I'd tough it in the weather!

Estate Jewelry Black Pendant Necklace, Ebay, $4.99

Now, typically I won't list items from Ebay because if you're looking to actually buy something, this isn't too helpful if more than one person wants to buy it! But, if it's an item that I believe you probably already have in your closet or can easily find somewhere else, then I don't think it's a problem. I envisioned a bold black or silver necklace to go with the outfit. I already have quite a few in my wardrobe, so I wouldn't buy a new one, but if I did, this would be a nice (cheap!!) one to add to the collection. Check places like Claire's, Walmart, or Target for fashion jewelry that you don't want to spend much $$ on.

What's the deal?

Hi all,

The idea for this website was born on a snow day, after reading quite a few blogs:
New Dress a Day, What I Wore, You're Sew Cool, and Artfully Awear. I love reading these and would love to emulate some of these ideas in my own life, but unfortunately I'm not that talented, nor do I have much "vision" when it comes to planning unique outfits. However, I've also discovered that I'd addicted (seriously, addicted!) to online shopping. I've spent a good deal of time the last few weeks browsing online stores to find just the right items and I've discovered that it's something I really enjoy doing. Unfortunately, I didn't exactly choose the best job to FUND my shopping habits. I'm a 4th grade teacher, and seeing as I would like to actually save a little money for my future, I should probably refrain from buying every little thing I want. I've noticed in magazines and online websites that shops often feature these "fantastic outfits for such a GREAT price," yet the items are actually rarely affordable for real people. $100 for a shirt is a serious splurge in my book, not a steal.

Thus, my idea for "Thrifty Teacher" was born. I thought I'd challenge myself to create an outfit a day for $60 or less. On the rare occasion that I find a fantastic deal, I might bend that goal just a teensy weensy bit (because let's face it, I'm still a sucker for brand names every now and then...:)) When I'm shopping online, I attempt to find every single promo code, plan my purchaes so that I can get free shipping, and find the store with the cheapest version of my item. So, I'm going to bring that all to you!

Now, in real life, I still couldn't afford to buy a brand new, $60 outfit every day of the week. But my thought is that if I wanted a brand new outfit for a special occasion, I could spend $60 for a whole outfit and not have to scrimp and save the rest of the month just to be able to pay my rent. Not all of these outfits are ones that I own, but they are all ones I would wear. Many of them include items that I already have in my wardrobe or are items that I have actually purchased online.

And finally, I feel like I need a disclaimer to point this out: I completely realize that this may not be a new idea and it may also seem "copy-catish," but I'm doing it mainly because I thought it would be fun and interesting (and hopefully I won't decide that I need to start actually purchasing every one of my outfits...:))

Looking foward to creating lots of options for myself and fellow readers....happy reading!
